Is it there or not? Is it real or fake? Is it real or imaginary?
The paths that the children took at Parco Cervi and Parco del Legno became sensitised. We smelled a peacock’s scent, heard the sound of frogs in the trees, saw a crocodile blowing bubbles... And you, if you stop, look and listen, what do you perceive?
OPEN THE MAP
The children of the Rodari Infant-toddler Centre immersed themselves in the environments surrounding the school.
Sensory perceptions took center stage in the experience of walking together, stopping to discover, searching to uncover: sounds, scents, colors, noises brought imagined subjects to life. But there in the meadow, in the tree, in the hole, are they there or not? Or perhaps it’s us who do not perceive them?
We like to think that our world is also inhabited by all those worlds that come to life in the imagination, where the invention and creation of the fantastic dwells. Children invite us to hone our sensibility and awareness of the qualities that enable human beings to imagine and invent.
(Translator’s note: “Sentire” in Italian is a holistic verb which can mean hear, feel, smell… it gives an idea of sensory fullness in a single verb. It could be translated as Hearing/Feeling/Smelling Paths)
