Notice for the protection of authenticity

Notice from Reggio Children® and Infant-Toddler Centres and Preschool – Istituzione of the Municipality of Reggio Emilia to all those who are interested in the Reggio Emilia Approach®

Reggio Children® was established in 1994 in Reggio Emilia, Italy, to protect and disseminate the educational experience developed and practiced in the infant-toddler centres and preschools operated by the Municipality of Reggio Emilia since the 1960s, to promote the rights and potentials of children throughout the world, and to spread an innovative culture of childhood and ongoing research in the field of education and learning.

The Loris Malaguzzi International Centre was opened in Reggio Emilia, Italy, in 2006. It was created to give greater value to a strong and distinctive characteristic of Reggio Emilia: the ability to lend listening, visibility and support to the rights and requests of children, young people, families and teachers. The Centre is a dedicated meeting place where professional development and research intersect for people in Reggio Emilia and the world who wish to innovate education and culture.

The growing notoriety and interest in the educational services for children from three months to six years old of the city of Reggio Emilia – of which we are proud and grateful to all those who study and take inspiration from what has come to be known as the “Reggio Emilia Approach®” – is evidenced by the growing number of organizations that are part of the international network of Reggio Children and by the numerous initiatives in many different countries organized around our experience.

The materials published by Reggio Children® have now been translated into 22 different languages in addition to Italian, and the exhibition The Hundred Languages of Children was produced in five languages from 1981 to 2006.

Along with the growing interest in the pedagogical approach of Reggio Emilia, we continue to receive reports of initiatives promoted by organizations and enterprises claiming to have expertise in regard to the Reggio Approach® and making unauthorized use of the names Reggio Children® and the Loris Malaguzzi International Centre in their countries, benefiting from the improper use of the notoriety of the city of Reggio Emilia for their own commercial ends and disseminating incorrect information, causing a risk of confusion for the public.

We therefore invite all those who are interested in deepening their understanding of our experience to contact the Reggio Children International Office (ph. +390522513752 – mailto: info@reggiochildren.it) to verify the authenticity of such initiatives publicized in the media and on Internet.
