Centre for Documentation and Educational Research

Istituzione Preschools and Infant-toddler Centres of Reggio Emilia Municipality

The Centre for Documentation and Educational Research, housed at the Loris Malaguzzi International Centre since 2006, was founded to valorise and give quality to experiences in Reggio Emilia’s municipal infant-toddler centres and preschools. The Centre’s work is addressed to teachers, educators, pedagogical co-ordinators, students, and all those interested in the world of education.

The Centre collects, organises and valorises the various works of documentation realised in the city’s infant-toddler centres and preschools. At the same time it promotes and supports the processes of research and professional growth of educators, teachers and educational workers in the local area of the municipality and the province of Reggio Emilia. Over the years deeper explorations of specific themes have been organised which are also open to educators and teachers from other cities and provinces.

As well as the small publications realised in infant-toddler centres and preschools, material which can be consulted at the Documentation Centre includes written work from project designs; series of books and reports; the centre’s collection of journals and periodicals on the themes of education and socials sciences; a large collection of slides and tapes, and a library of books on the subjects of psychology, pedagogy, sociology, art and literature by international publishers, beside works published by Reggio Children. Materials are catalogued in a digital database. The Documentation Centre also houses a historical archive with writings, testimonials and official documents related to the birth of the infant-toddler centres and preschools.
