“The Reggio Emilia Approach to Education. 0-99 continuity in a qualified system of relationships”


We like to think of continuity as an ongoing dialogue always open to transform itself.

We like to think of continuity as an action of sharing able to modify relationships among the ones that belong to different realities.

We like to think of continuity in a context of relations in which common realities are built and become always stronger.

Education and learning always have a meaning, they create connections among groups, people and cultural contexts.

…What is the role of the school?
What is knowledge?
How does a child learn and how does a human being learn?
Which kind of rights do we think children have in the school?
When children growing up do their rights change or does the way of interpret them change?
What is the role of the teacher?
In which way we think of parents participation in the life of the school?
Which kind of dialogue do we establish with the territory?…
The projection of the Winter Institute week program is in process.


The paragraph and the questions above will inspire all of us to build answers together, to develop our thinking, to be involved in a common context and attitude of research that will give meaning to our time together in Reggio Emilia.


Topics of the International Winter Institute will include:
- Background on the pedagogical, historical and cultural and social aspects of the Reggio Emilia Municipal Infant Toddler Centres and Preschools experience
- Children as citizens
- The rights of children
- Parents participation in the life of the school
- The role of the educators
- The schools as a system of interactions and relationships
- The meaning of continuity
- The environment and the educational space
- Pedagogy of Listening
- Communication and new exhibitions
- Observation, interpretation and documentation
- Reggio Children publications as tools for making visible learning processes


The weekly International Winter Institute program will be also developed through:
- Visit to the town of Reggio Emilia: approaching to social, cultural, political context
- Encountering the town-community
- Presentations by pedagogistas, atelieristas and teachers on the principles of the educational project of the Preschools and Infanttoddler, Centres Istituzione of the Municipality of Reggio Emilia
- Presentation and analysis of research projects realized inside the Preschools and Infant-toddler Centres and primary schools
- Visits to Preschools, Infant Toddler Centres, to the Loris Malaguzzi International Centre and to the Documentation and Educational Research Centre
- Discussion groups
- Sharing experiences among the participants


During the week, the experience of the Preschools and Infant Toddler, Centres Istituzione of the Municipality of Reggio Emilia will remember
Loris Malaguzzi on the day of his birthday (February 23rd).
