Investing in early childhood

A research project carried out to evaluate the impact of the investments in early childhood made by the city of Reggio Emilia in terms of economic returns to the community and benefiting the well-being of adults and children.

The project arose from a dialogue established three years ago between the Loris Malaguzzi International Center and the Center for Economic Research of the University of Chicago, on the occasion of the first visit to Reggio Emilia by Dr. James Heckman (Fall 2008).

Two workshops on the subject were held in Reggio Emilia in 2010. Dr. James Heckman (University of Chicago, winner of the Nobel Prize in Economics in 2000), psychologist Dr. Jerome Bruner (New York University), and sociologist Dr. Lynne Heckman participated in the workshop held in June.
